APFSCIL was of course not the first organisation to represent the collective views of football supporters and during its existence others have been formed. Its policy has always been to collaborate where appropriate and from the early days it has been kept closely in touch with the activities of the long-established National Federation of Football Supporters' Clubs. Sunderland, the club of the Association's initial Secretary, Ian Todd, were already Federation members and he and APFSCIL's founder, Monica Hartland, whilst retaining their positive involvement with the Association to this day, both subsequently became senior officials of the Federation and have been able to report regularly on Federation to APFSCIL meetings.
Other organisations with whom the Association has been in contact over its existence have been the Save Soccer Action Group - a group set up to combat hooliganism - its successor, Football's Family Face and the "Let's Kick Racism out of Football" campaign. Representatives of the Football Supporters' Association, Rogan Taylor, Craig Brewin and Dave Fleming have all attended APFSCIL meetings whilst club delegates who have also been individual members of FSA have reported on its activities from time to time. In 1996, an initiative with the working title SOIL (Supporters' Organisations in Liaison) involved representatives of APFSCIL, the London FSA and the Southern Division of NFFSC to explore ways of the groups working more closely together. Although this never became a formal alliance, more recently a nationally-based Coalition of Football Supporters, with similar ideals, has been launched and the Association is monitoring its development and has publicly supported the concept.
