The Exeter Exiles were founded in November 1991 after (yet) another uninspiring game at Leyton Orient. The intention was to provide a focus for City fans living away from Devon, particularly in London and the South East. We will have been established for 14 YEARS in November and we have an organisation, with over 250+ members, firstly predominantly in the London/South East region, but latterly anywhere in the UK and abroad (Paris, Switzerland, France, Spain, America & Australia to name but a few). Early on in our existence, we joined APFSCIL (The Association of Provincial Football Supporters Clubs in London), recognising not only the benefits of reduced travel prices, but also the importance of uniting with fellow supporters over common causes. More recently, this has included involvement with the Birkbeck College based "Supporter Involvement in Football Clubs" initiative which has resulted in the formation of Supporters Direct and the Supporters' Trust movement of which the Exeter Trust is a flagship for the whole movement. We have had successful teams in the APFSCIL football and pool leagues for a number of seasons now, as well as making an annual outing in the Home Counties' Quiz League Cup (we've never actually made it past the first round but it's the taking part that counts, right!). APFSCIL also organises many other social events which we give full support to including their annual dinner and a ten pin bowling night. Our football team has made progress from last but one in Division 3 in its first season to promotion and a series of mid-table finishes in Division 2. They gained promoted to the top division a few seasons ago and are holding their own in this division. If you are interested in playing in this team, please contact Alan Crockford. The pool team achieved a promotion in the '95/'96 season with a 3rd division championship win but then found them selves in the bottom division again when the three divisions were compressed back into two. In season, 99/00, they achieved another promotion to the top division and have stayed there ever since. They finished runners up in season 2003-2004 and a credible 3rd in season 2004-2005. They also gained success in the pool cup competition in 2004/5 beating Sunderland 5-1 in the final. If you are interested in playing in this team, please contact Geoff Kerslake at Geoff.Kerslake@AllenOvery.com or goff592@yahoo.co.uk. Most importantly, though, we exist to get people to City games. Neil Le Milliere is the travel officer and he is able to purchase tickets via First Great Western for trips to Exeter for approximately £23.50 each when 4 people travel together giving members great savings on the normal prices. More importantly we organise travel to all away games getting good deals on all journeys if we book in advance. We're usually able to get cheaper fares than people can get on their own and, of course, there's the added bonus of a group of die-hard Grecians with whom to share the journey, the banter and the cider armadillos. Membership of the Exiles for the forthcoming season is £10 with a special one-off £5 for renewals this year. For this you receive:
In addition we will send you weekly e-mails with news about ECFC and the Exiles; events happening in London; travel updates for forthcoming games; and a committee to both represent, and to arrange events for, you. There will also be an exclusive Exeter Exiles t-shirt produced this season for sale to members. The Official Club Website can be found at www.exetercityfc.co.uk. The best Unofficial Fans' Website is at www.ecfcfans.com. The website with Exeter Chat on its message boards is at www.exeweb.com. The Exeter Express & Echo website is at www.thisisexeter.co.uk. The ECFC Supporters Trust website is at www.ecfcst.org.uk. The Norwegian Exeter Supporters Club can be found at www.exeter.no GNet - The Exeter City FC Mailing List GNet grew out of some emails between a few fans when one of them - Dan Rice - originally set up the list (to get more people involved) along with the original web site, GreciaNet. Paul Garnham and Andy Beer then took over the running of the site and Paul also took over GNet. Martin Ellicott and Neil Le Milliere currently administer it. It has moved three times so far, once at the behest of the hosts who were struggling to cope with the volumes of traffic and then latterly due to reliability problems. Its current home is at SmartGroups, e-mail gnet-subscribe@smartgroups.com to join. It's a vibrant list and you can be set up for immediate messages, digest or web access only depending on what suits you best. Currently the membership is well into three figures. GNET is primarily a site for any and all Exeter City fans to express their personal views and thoughts about the club in general and football in particular. Postings on other subjects (not necessarily Exeter related) are welcome as this tends to foster a 'family' feeling to the list and promotes a more friendly feel to following the Club. The second principle of GNET is to act as a news and advertising medium for all things to do with the Club to get them to as wide an audience as possible and to enable those in Exile to maintain their links with the Club (and the City) and to be aware of what is happening to it. The third main objective is to enable the views and queries of those people on the list to be put to the Club and, as and when possible, for the Club to respond to these. To enable the latter to happen there are a number of people on the list who forward to the Club office address those postings - or parts of postings - that we feel they need to know about, or postings where people have specifically asked for an answer from the Club.
