BRISTOL CITY

The Bristol City Supporters Club in London was formed during the 1975/76 season when Bristol City Football Club won promotion to the then Division One of the Football League after an absence of 65 years.

After a period of decline in the early 1980s which coincided with the collapse of the Football Club through the divisions, the London Branch has gone from strength to strength and has a membership now well in excess of 100, at a level higher than any time since its formation. We are a branch of the Bristol City Supporters Club based at Ashton Gate and we have a close relationship with the parent body which is particularly important and beneficial now that the Bristol City Supporters Club has a substantial shareholding in Bristol City Football Club and has its Chairman Gary Williams, now as a Director of the Football Club. Therefore we have direct access to the Board of Directors through that channel. Most of our members live in London and the South East but there are also a few in other parts of the Country and some overseas and we claim to be the only Club in APFSCIL to have a member working in the Khyber Pass With the form shown by the football team last season he may be our luckiest member! The current annual subscription is £5.

We organise travel wherever possible to home games and away matches. We have always preferred to travel by train but during our notable run in the FA Cup in season 1993/94 we organised several successful executive coach excursions to matches. With the present uncertainty over rail travel we are looking increasingly at the option of coach travel and travel by mini bus and car. Wherever possible we are always keen to organise joint trips with other member clubs in APFSCIL.

On the sports and social front we have always been active within the APFSCIL sports. We have had a team in the 11-a-side league for over 10 seasons and also have a team in the Pool League and have had considerable success over the yeas in both cup and league competitions. Regrettably, we no longer have a darts team but would hope to reconstitute this particularly in view of success previously enjoyed in both cup and league competitions.

The branch holds social meetings from time to time but there is no regular date as a good deal of the social meeting takes place at travel and at football and pool fixtures. We publish a fanzine-style journal periodically and also a regular bulletin for our members advising on travel and sports and social functions.

We have always valued our membership of APFSCIL being among one of its earlier members. We look forward to participating in APFSCIL's functions.
